Which AI Presentation Tools Actually Export Editable PPTX?

We set out to answer whether AI-generated decks survive being exported to PowerPoint with their formatting intact. After testing the five tools we can test, the honest answer turned out to be a different question than the one we started with. Every export we could actually run came out fully editable — Gamma, Decktopus, and Plus AI all held up completely, including two tools that multiple third-party reviews had told us would flatten into images. The real failure point wasn’t broken exports. It was that two of those five — Beautiful.ai and Pitch — wouldn’t produce a PPTX file at all without upgrading to a paid plan first.
A sixth tool on this page, MOVO AI, is ours, and it carries no verdict for a different reason than the paywalled two.

What “editable” means here
Every tool lands in one of three buckets, described in full on our methodology page: editable (text and shapes arrive as real PowerPoint objects), partly editable (some objects survive, others — usually charts — flatten), or flat image (the whole slide is one picture, nothing to select). A marker (*) next to a verdict below means it’s a reported claim, not something we’ve verified ourselves.

We built our standard ten-slide brief in Gamma — title, problem/solution, features, a growth chart, a comparison table, pricing, testimonial, team, and a CTA slide — exported it to PPTX on the free plan, and opened the file in real Microsoft PowerPoint. Every element we clicked through stayed a genuine PowerPoint object, down to a CTA button on the closing slide keeping its own selection handles. This directly contradicted third-party reviews we’d previously cited, which described Gamma’s export flattening into images.

Same result as Gamma, and same kind of correction. Multiple independent sources we’d found described Decktopus’s export as a non-editable image capture requiring OCR to recover text. Our own test — same brief, exported to PPTX, opened in real PowerPoint — found the opposite: text, chart, and table all remained editable objects. Two out of two reported “flat” claims on this page have now been overturned by direct testing.

Plus AI never leaves PowerPoint’s own file format in the first place — it’s an add-in that builds slides using PowerPoint’s native objects directly, so there’s no separate export or conversion step that could introduce flattening. We tested it against the same brief and confirmed everything (text, chart, table) came out editable, which is what the mechanism would predict, but we checked rather than assumed.

We tried to run the same test here that worked for Gamma, Decktopus, and Plus AI, and couldn’t get past the first step. Clicking “Export Slide” opens a modal reading “Unlock this feature when you upgrade to the Pro plan” — no file gets generated until you pay. This matches what Beautiful.ai’s own support documentation already says about export being restricted to Pro/Team/Enterprise plans; our firsthand attempt confirms the gate is real. The editability question itself is still open — there was nothing to open in PowerPoint and judge.

That distinction matters on this page specifically: Beautiful.ai and Pitch are blank because a paywall stopped us, and MOVO is blank because we stopped ourselves.
What its pricing page does publish is that PPTX and Figma export are blocked on the free plan entirely, with PDF and PNG capped at three watermarked exports — so the free tier fails the same practical test Pitch’s does, before any question of file quality arises. So is PPTX export quality not actually a problem?
Based on what we could test, no — not for the tools that let you export at all. The real dividing line we found wasn't editable-vs-flat, it was whether you can get a PPTX file out in the first place without paying. That's a different, and in our sample more common, failure point than the one this post originally set out to measure.
Why did you previously say Gamma and Decktopus flatten PPTX exports?
Because that's what multiple independent third-party reviews claimed, and we hadn't tested either ourselves yet — so we labeled both clearly as reported, unverified claims. Once we ran our own tests, both results contradicted those reviews: everything we checked stayed editable in both tools. We've corrected the page and left the correction visible rather than silently editing it away.
Why couldn't you test Beautiful.ai or Pitch?
We tried both. Beautiful.ai's "Export Slide" option opens an upgrade-to-Pro paywall before generating anything. Pitch's export dialog shows a "PowerPoint export is a premium feature" message in the same spot. Neither produced a file we could open in PowerPoint, so the editability question itself is still unanswered for both — what we can say firsthand is that export is gated, which matches what each vendor's own pricing page already claims.
What's the difference between a tool you've tested and one you've only read about?
We mark every claim on this site as either our own test (we built the deck, exported it, and opened the file ourselves) or a reported claim (sourced from the vendor's own documentation or independent reviews, clearly labeled as not verified by us). Gamma, Decktopus, and Plus AI are now in the first category. Beautiful.ai's editability claim is still in the second — we know export is paywalled firsthand, but not whether the result would be editable.
Is Plus AI included in an 'editable PPTX' comparison if it doesn't export to PPTX?
We include it because it's a real answer to the underlying question — how do you end up with an editable file — even though its answer is 'skip the export entirely.'
