What we could confirm about Tome
Two facts, from two different kinds of source.
Tome’s own product is unreachable. We navigated to tome.app ourselves on 5 August 2026.
It returns a 404. That is a direct observation, not a secondhand claim, and it is the most
concrete evidence we have that the presentation product is no longer operating.
The company pivoted, on the record. VentureBeat reported on 20 November 2025 that Tome’s founders moved the company to build an AI-native CRM called Lightfield. It launched publicly that month, after a year of quiet development. CEO Keith Peiris told the outlet the team had concluded that “building lasting differentiation in the general-purpose presentation market would prove difficult.” That was despite real traction: the article cites 20 million users and $43 million in the bank at the time of the decision. Coatue Management, which led Tome’s Series A, backed the new company too.
What we are not stating as fact: a specific shutdown date, a specific funding total, a specific revenue number, or that the Tome brand was sold to another company. Versions of all four claims appear across other sites covering this story, phrased with more precision than the one primary source we found supports. It’s listed because a page surveying this category, published by a company inside it, that quietly leaves itself out is its own kind of distortion. The published numbers: PPTX export blocked on the free plan, which allows three watermarked PDF or PNG exports; unwatermarked PPTX from Pro at $19.99/mo; no annual rate published; no seat count published.
