What Does It Actually Cost to Send a Client One PDF SEO Report?
Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. We may earn a commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.
The list price of an SEO tool is not what it costs to do the job people actually buy these tools for: handing a client a report they can read. Two of the four tools here sell that export as a separate product on top of the subscription, so the advertised entry price is only part of the bill. This post adds the two numbers together.
The Short Answer
- Ubersuggest — Ubersuggest costs $12/mo total, because its cheapest plan already includes PDF export and there is no add-on to buy.
- Ahrefs — Ahrefs costs $128/mo total — a $29/mo Starter plan carrying a $99/mo Report Builder add-on, the most expensive export add-on of the four.
- Semrush — Semrush costs $149/mo total on monthly billing, because its cheapest plan is $139/mo before the $10/mo Base Report add-on is added.
- Surfer SEO — Surfer SEO publishes a $49/mo entry price but nothing we could verify about export on that tier, so we are not putting a total next to it.
| Tool | Best for | From | Free | Report export |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ubersuggest | Cheapest Complete Path | $12/mo | No | Cheapest paid plan exports |
| Ahrefs | Cheapest Plan, Priciest Add-On | $29/mo | Yes | Export is a paid add-on |
| Semrush | Most Expensive on Monthly Billing | $117.33/mo (annual) | Yes | Export is a paid add-on |
| Surfer SEO | Not Enough Published to Total | $49/mo (annual) | No | No free tier to evaluate |
What we added up
For each tool we took two numbers straight from the vendor’s own pricing page — the cheapest paid plan, and whatever report export costs on top of it — and added them. Nothing else is in these totals: no seats beyond the plan’s default, no annual-prepay discount unless we say so, no trial credit. Where a vendor doesn’t publish enough to complete the sum, we leave the total blank rather than estimate it. The underlying plan prices and export-gating details come from our export-gating review, read on 2026-08-05.
Cheapest Complete Path
1. Ubersuggest — Cheapest Complete Path
Ubersuggest is the only tool here where the sum has one term. Individual is $12/mo and its feature list includes “Export images, CSV and PDF” outright, so $12/mo is the whole bill for a client-ready report. That’s roughly a tenth of what the next-cheapest complete path costs. The catch is at the other end: there’s no perpetual free plan to trial this on, so $12/mo is also the floor for touching the tool at all.
From $12/mo. No free plan.
- Individual — $12/mo · 1 seat
- Business — $20/mo · 2 seats
- Enterprise — $40/mo · 5 seats
Report export Cheapest paid plan exports — All three plans list "Export images, CSV and PDF" outright — including the cheapest, Individual at $12/mo. No separate add-on purchase, unlike Semrush or Ahrefs.
Pros
- Export is bundled into the cheapest plan with no add-on tax — the only tool of the four here where that's true
Skip it if
- No perpetual free plan — the official pricing page shows only paid tiers with a trial button, despite marketing copy elsewhere implying free daily searches
Cheapest Plan, Priciest Add-On
2. Ahrefs — Cheapest Plan, Priciest Add-On
Ahrefs produces the most counterintuitive number in this group. Its Report Builder add-on is $99/mo, about ten times Semrush’s equivalent, which makes it look like the expensive choice. But Ahrefs’ entry plan is $29/mo against Semrush’s $139/mo, and that $110/mo gap in the base subscription more than covers the $89/mo gap in the add-on. Total: $128/mo, $21/mo less than Semrush on monthly billing. Ahrefs publishes no annual rate for Starter, so this total doesn’t move if you prepay.
From $29/mo. Free plan: Ahrefs Free — site data for domains you verify you own.
- Starter — $29/mo
- Lite — $129/mo, or $108/mo billed annually
- Standard — $249/mo
- Advanced — $449/mo
Report export Export is a paid add-on — White-label report export lives in the Report Builder add-on ($99/mo), purchased on top of any plan — it is not part of Starter, Lite, or any base tier.

- Report Builder is a $99/mo add-on regardless of which base plan you already pay for — the highest export add-on price of the four tools here
Most Expensive on Monthly Billing
3. Semrush — Most Expensive on Monthly Billing
Semrush’s $10/mo Base Report add-on is the cheapest export upsell here by a wide margin, and it’s the least of your costs. The cheapest plan you can attach it to is SEO at $139/mo, which makes the complete path $149/mo — the highest of the three tools we could total. Prepay annually and the plan drops to $117.33/mo, bringing the total to $127.33/mo, which is $0.67 below Ahrefs. On annual billing these two are the same price in every way that matters.
From $117.33/mo (annual). Free plan: 1 demo project, 10 reports per day across all tools, basic keyword research, site audit up to 100 pages.
- SEO — $139/mo, or $117.33/mo billed annually
- Starter — $199/mo, or $165.17/mo billed annually
- Pro+ — $299/mo, or $248.17/mo billed annually
- Advanced — $549/mo, or $455.67/mo billed annually
Report export Export is a paid add-on — PDF export lives in the Base Report add-on ($10/mo) — it is not bundled into any of the four base plans, free included.
Pros
- The free plan gives 10 reports a day across the whole tool suite, not one narrow feature
Skip it if
- Report export is never included in a base plan at any price — it is always a separate $10/mo Base Report purchase
Not Enough Published to Total
4. Surfer SEO — Not Enough Published to Total
Surfer SEO’s entry price is $49/mo on Discovery, billed annually, with no free tier ahead of it — that number we verified. The second number we’d need is whether export is included at that tier, and Surfer’s pricing page doesn’t say the way Semrush’s and Ahrefs’ do. We’re not going to add $49 to a guess and publish the result as a cost, so this row has no total. If export does turn out to be included, Surfer would sit between Ubersuggest and Ahrefs.
From $49/mo (annual). No free plan.
- Discovery — $49/mo billed annually
- Standard — $99/mo billed annually
- Pro — $182/mo billed annually
- Peace of Mind — $299/mo billed annually
Report export No free tier to evaluate — No free plan exists to evaluate against this axis. We did not find export gated behind a separate add-on the way Semrush and Ahrefs gate it, but we have not confirmed export behavior on the lowest paid tier either.

The simpler question these totals are built on — is export part of the plan, or a separate purchase? — is answered tool by tool in the other review in our SEO tools category. We apply the same add-up-what-it-really-costs approach to AI presentation tools, where the hidden multiplier isn’t an add-on at all — it’s the billing period, which moves one tool’s price by 3.1x.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest way to produce a client-ready SEO report?
Of the four tools we priced, Ubersuggest's Individual plan at $12/mo is the cheapest complete path, because export is already in the plan. Every other tool here needs a base subscription plus a separate export purchase, which puts the next-cheapest complete path at $128/mo.
Is Ahrefs or Semrush cheaper for exporting reports?
It depends on billing period, and the answer is close enough to matter. On monthly billing Ahrefs is $128/mo against Semrush's $149/mo, a $21 gap. On annual billing Semrush's plan drops to $117.33/mo, making its total $127.33/mo — $0.67 cheaper than Ahrefs. Treat them as equivalent on annual.
Doesn't Ahrefs have the most expensive export add-on?
Yes, and it still lands as the cheaper total. Ahrefs' Report Builder is $99/mo against Semrush's $10/mo Base Report — roughly 10x. But Ahrefs' entry plan is $29/mo against Semrush's $139/mo, and that $110 difference in the base subscription more than absorbs the $89 difference in the add-on.
Can I buy Semrush's export add-on on the free plan for $10 total?
We don't know, and we're not going to guess at a number that would change the whole ranking. Semrush's pricing page states the Base Report add-on is not bundled into any base plan including the free one; it does not state whether the add-on can be attached to a free account on its own. We'll add it here once we can confirm it directly.
Why isn't Surfer SEO given a total?
Because we'd have to invent half of it. We verified Surfer's entry price — Discovery at $49/mo, billed annually, with no free tier — but we could not confirm whether report export is included at that tier or sold separately. A total built on an unconfirmed second number isn't a measurement, so the column stays empty.
